What is J1 Visa Health Insurance?
J1 Visa Health Insurance, also sometimes known as J1 Student Travel Medical Insurance insurance specifically for students who are travelling to the USA on a J1 Exchange Visitor Visa Programme. It's available from Globelink for people living in teh UK or the EU aged up to 50 years old.
If you are traveling to the USA on a J1 Visa, you must have J1 student visa travel health insurance for the full duration of your programme which meets the minimum standards set by the U.S Department of State. We are pleased to confirm that Globelink J1 Student Visa Travel Insurance exceeds the requirements of the US J1 Visa exchange programme. The US Department of State minimum J1 health insurance requirements are as follows:
- Medical Benefits of at least$100,000 per accident or illness
- Repatriation of Remains of$25,000
- Medical evacuation expenses of the exchange visitor to their home country of $50,000
- A deductible (or Excess) not to exceed$500 per accident or illness
- A policy underwritten by an insurance carrier with:
- an A.M. Best rating of "A-" or above;
- a McGraw Hill Financial/Standard & Poor's Claims paying Ability rating of "A-" or above;
- a Weiss Research, Inc. rating of "B+" or above;
- a Fitch Ratings, Inc. rating of "A-" or above;
- a Moody's Investor Services rating of "A3" or above;

J1 Regular provides an enhanced level of cover and includes everything in J1 Basic: Cancellation & Curtailment, Emergency Medical Expenses, Hospital Confinement, Personal Accident, Missed Departure, Personal Liability including Rental Accommodation. Plus extra cover for Baggage, Personal Money, Legal Expenses, Travel Disruption and Student Exam Failure.
